Roundup: A Good Thing

Yeah. I'm really jealous reading all the summer sign-off posts. I am not there yet, yet SO ready to be there. The end of the year is running everyone ragged: tempers are short, patience is thin, laughter is strained. For every really neat experience I have, another just steamrolls over it.

This post is dedicated to Good Things.

I had the opportunity to sub for my student teacher. I had such a good time with the kids, and it lightened my heart. I don't regret having given them up for a student teacher; it's just a fun bunch to work with.

I went to a little TGIF party last Friday and spent a couple hours talking to people I don't get to see a lot of on campus. I really work with a great bunch of people. Kind, funny, intelligent. And the host's wife makes a stunning daiquiri. I use that in the most literal sense of the word!

I managed to finish two assistant chair tasks to my satisfaction. One of them involved money, orders, checks, and so on (not my metier), and I'm proud of the way I handled that. The other one involved a lot of harassment follow up with my department -- and I think I managed to do it without earning enmity from my colleagues.

I finally made the selection for AP next year, and the one issue I thought would be an issue has not arisen. Knock wood.

My on-campus six-week exercise program has yielded some tangible results -- just think what would happen (I tell myself) if I changed my eating habits, too! It's time to start writing stuff down again!

I've had visits from grads (two who brought me chai tea) that remind me that I have made a difference to people, and that I will continue to.
