To Dine on Thine Enemy

One of our administrators is currently piloting a campus inquiry website -- a sort of quick reference guide to some of the ongoing issues at our school. Students, teachers, or parents can all post comments anonymously; once the comments are screened (and heavily edited, in some cases), the administrator posts the questions and then the answer. Topics range from school culture to curriculum to technology. It's not organized into categories (yet), but readers can page through the archives to see if their questions have been addressed. It's like "Dear Abby" for our campus.

And right now it's a bit of a headache.

Here are some semi-verbatim comments/inquiries (and answers I would write, if I didn't care too much about keeping up a good rapport with people -- or keeping my job, for that matter.

yes i think you should keep options open for vegatarian students and vegan students, there are shaker salads that are ok and cheese pizza but for vegans, they cant eat cheese it would be much appreciated if you could put at least tofu or foe meat. thanks!!!!!

Specialized dietary needs are addressed as well as we can. Dietary preferences can not always be accommodated -- bringing you your school food is a complex process. Bringing your own food to school is rather easier.

"Foe meat"? Are you eating your adversaries? Isn't that real meat? Unless your foes are made out of soy...

i think... about the tardy sweep, security should be more considerate to the students, i mean some times they should at least see the story, you have to admit the lockers can get stuck, with books, or sports bags, and food lines are ridicoulously long, come on and plus if were not supposed to go to the restroom during class then what if we have to do that then by food or talk to teachers, all i am saying is some of the staff takes there job very seriously

If your locker is giving you problems, report it to administration so that it can be fixed. Build an extra ten minutes into your schedule so that if it happens, you can make the attempt, report it to someone in charge, and then (and here's the key) MAKE IT TO CLASS ON TIME. In addition, BRING YOUR OWN FOOD TO SCHOOL, and the lines will cease to be relevant. PEE RIGHT BEFORE FIRST PERIOD, AT THE BEGINNING OF BREAK, OR AT THE BEGINNING OF LUNCH.

You bet your ass the faculty take their jobs seriously. Is that supposed to be an insult? If so, then I'm sorry for working so hard to give you a future. Pardon me. My bad.

why are the dancing rules so strict

Because not everyone understands the difference between dancing and screwing.

why dont they powerwash every once a month on like a weekend or so. i mean thats what they do at apartment complexs why cant they do it here at [school]

Why can't you use proper grammar, spelling, or punctuation?

Because we can't afford it. These things cost thousands of dollars. You doing your part to keep the campus clean is actually FREE! So do it.

HOW ABOUT Mandarin 2, and year after that Mandarin 3, i mean whats the point of taking it when theres no 2 and 3 years of that class it would be a waste!!!!!!!!!! total and complete waste of what we need to acomplish for colleges that except Mandarin

We're in the process of adding new sections to new language electives. If it's that important to you, take Spanish, you little pissant.

hi could you please do something like send an email to mr. teacher, i always check the website and hasnt changed since Sept. when our first test was its really annoying and i know it takes up there time but we have time to that we need and to check tasts and homework, thank you this wwould be geatly appreciated

Thank you for your email. Have YOU thought about going to Mr. Teacher with your request? And if you are checking anything, it should be your spelling. "Tasts," indeed.

*Sigh*. I feel for the person who has to field these questions. And I wonder (wincing all the while) if any of these comments come from my students. I think it might be time for a lesson on how any communication with another individual has rules, that following the rules is courteous, and that being courteous leads to better results, i.e., getting what you want.

They can't possibly be your students; their English is appalling!

I dunno. In my class, they all have their company manners -- when they hit the internet, all bets are off! It's as if their IQ drops twenty points. Argh.
